‘Best of the Best’ Yoghurt

Maleny Gourmet Apple & Cinnamon Yoghurt was named Australia’s best flavoured yogurt in 2014 at the Australian Grand Dairy Awards.

The quality of the pure fresh, Sunshine Coast hinterland milk, is the foundation ingredient in the success of all Maleny Cheese’s delicious yoghurts. Only clean, locally sourced milk within a day of it being milked from the cow is used. Then it is the innovation and dedication created and maintained by the Maleny Cheese factory team that consistently makes some of Australia’s ‘best of the best’, in this class of yoghurt. Maleny Cheese has won this award in 2009 with Maleny Gourmet Yoghurt Passionfruit, and in the 2014 competition where Apple & Cinnamon won, Maleny Gourmet Yoghurt Passionfruit had also been named a runner up.

So how do yoghurt judges consider a quality yoghurt you may ask. We believe they consider a champion yoghurt on many factors, as well as the quality and overall finish of the yoghurt. Some judge points include a yoghurt’s creaminess, flavour and the overall satisfaction of ‘mouth feel’ on tasting the yoghurt. When judging your own yoghurt for purchase is undertaken, we believe other points to consider would of course also include the value for money, the authenticity of the yoghurt and whether it is from your local state or region. If you find it difficult to stop at tasting just three spoons of a particular yoghurt, you certainly may well have found an award winning yoghurt. You would not be alone in experiencing this challenge when tasting Maleny Gourmet Yoghurt Apple & Cinnamon as the yoghurt delivers a taste of excellence you would find hard to elsewhere or replicate.

With the entire Maleny Gourmet Yoghurt range, the fruit based that is selected for each variety is considered very carefully in the recipe planning at the factory. The quality and consistency of the fruit on tasting is of upmost importance, the reputation and stability of the supplier also of great importance. The aim is to have a consistency of fruit that enhances the texture and flavour of the Maleny Gourmet Yoghurt. Once the team are satisfied with the flavour, small batch trials are conducted and feedback from customers who taste test and purchase these small productions is sought. Once the feedback is positive on all fronts, the new yoghurt product is launched through shops and outlets across south east Queensland.

Other fruit styles in the Maleny Gourmet range include Mango, Passionfruit, Mixed Berry, Blueberry and Chocolate. Chocolate of course not being fruit, but it does offer such a delicious taste and marries so well with the yoghurt, Maleny Cheese had to release this flavour too. There are more flavours coming too. Currently on trial in Maleny outlets and one to look out for in shops soon is ‘Maleny Gourmet Yoghurt Coffee’.

So don’t take our word for it – get into your fresh food suppliers shop and buy some yoghurt to test for yourself. Here is check list you might like to use as you search for your own Queensland ‘yoghurt of the year’
